GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - This holiday season, you can spread cheer to needy children across the world. This week Operation Christmas Child is collecting shoe boxes filled with a variety of gifts for those who need them.
Here's what you need to know if you want to help:
First get a shoe box and fill it with toys and school supplies for a girl or a boy. Then drop off your wrapped shoe box at Clifton Christian Church or at one of the other collection sites.
"What we are doing is giving children who are in areas of the world that don't have any hope hope. Those things in those boxes aren't going to last very long and we understand that but the story of Jesus, the Christmas story, that goes with every one of those boxes to those children that hope can be eternal," said local coordinator Lydia Landry.
Operation Christmas Child asks you to wrap the top and bottom of your shoe box separately, although wrapping is not required. This way the packages can be checked before they are shipped out. Place a rubber band or tie it with a string so the box stays together.
The drive goes until Monday, Nov. 19.
