GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) --- to celebrate the Roice-Hurst Humane Society's 50th Anniversary.

A special gala was held to benefit the non-profit. Guests wined and dined wearing Western attire at The Doubletree by Hilton in Grand Junction.

Auctions were in place to raise money for the homeless pets. The organization's Golden Anniversary may only come once every 50 years, but event planners hope to make the gala an annual fundraiser.

"Roice-Hurst has been here for 50 years and we thought it merited a big celebration and gave us an opportunity to start our first big gala fundraiser that we can continue from now on and have a yearly fundraiser," said Julie Butherus President of Roice-Hurst Humane Society.

The Western theme was a way for tonight's guests to have an opportunity to dress down for the gala, instead of dressing up.

If you are interested in participating in next year's gala, you can head to Roice-Hurst's website linked to this story, for more information.
