Ground blessing ceremony kicks off construction

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Construction prep for a new affordable housing project begins with a special ground blessing ceremony.

Community members and local religious leaders attended the st. martin's phase two ground blessing ceremony hosted by the grand valley catholic outreach.

Twenty-four one-bedroom apartment units will be added to the already existing st. martin's place in the property just next to the construction site.

"We have very happy residents, I want to say, at least they are much better off than they were before. we have case workers that help them back into the community and deal with issues in their life," Gregg Kampf of the Grand Valley Catholic Outreach.

Community leaders like the mayor and grand valley catholic outreach spoke at today's ceremony, and a current resident of St. Martin's Place shared his appreciation for the project with the crowd.

St. Martin's Place has helped 20 people get off the street in the last two years and hopes to continue the success with this second phase of the project.
