Hearing officer makes findings on uranium mill

DENVER (AP) -- A hearing officer says he sees no evidence of bias by state health officials who reviewed a license application for a proposed uranium mill in western Colorado.

That was among several findings of fact Monday by Richard Dana following a hearing last fall over Energy Fuels Inc.'s license application for the proposed Pinon Ridge mill. Dana didn't say whether the license should be reissued, explaining that the hearing represented only a step in state officials' consideration of the license application, but he noted expert testimony from all sides at the hearing that health officials should consider.

The hearing was ordered by a Denver judge who invalidated a license the state issued for the proposed mill in 2011, after opponents argued the public didn't get a proper chance to weigh in.
