GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- The mother accused in the death of her two sons is granted new court representation.
Thursday morning, a judge gave Heather Jensen permission to get a public defender. Until now, she has been represented by defense attorney Ed Nugent.
An official reason for the change wasn't given, but District Attorney Pete Hautzinger says in general, people often switch to public defenders for financial reasons.
Jensen faces charges of child abuse resulting in death and criminally negligent homicide in the hyperthermia deaths of two-year-old William and four-year-old Tyler Jensen.
Heather is being held in the maximum security unit of the Mesa County Jail because of her charges and the high profile manner of her case. However, she appeared in court Thursday morning with a black eye.
