Heightened law enforcement patrol for Super Bowl

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Some people in Mesa County might be waking up with more than just a hangover tomorrow morning.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Department had extra patrol out for the big game.

For the past two years, the Colorado Department of Transportation has seen a decrease in the number of DUI arrests over Super Bowl weekend state-wide, but that doesn't mean local law enforcement is easing up their patrol.

Instead, they have more deputies working.

"We do because of the Super Bowl weekend, there tends to be more people drinking with the Super Bowl going on, so we just try to enforce that," said Deputy Garth Cowley with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department.

They hope the extra patrol helped keep residents safe in Mesa County.
