WARREN, Ohio (AP) -- Investigators in Ohio say two teenagers who escaped a crash that killed six friends in a swampy pond got out of the SUV by breaking a rear window and swimming to safety.

It's still not known what the eight were doing in the sport utility vehicle when it flipped over into the pond Sunday morning in the northeast Ohio city of Warren.

State Highway Patrol Lt. Brian Holt said Monday investigators are still piecing the details together.

He says that no one in the group had permission to take the vehicle and that its owner was not related to any of the teens.

All of those killed were ages 14 to 19. Authorities say the SUV was traveling fast when it hit a guardrail.
