Many families are taking advantage of time off to hit the slopes. Powderhorn Resort staff said they've got the best conditions in the state.

One local father and his daughter said after a day of holiday cheer they couldn't wait to zoom down the mountain.

"Oh we can't stay away from the snow being in Colorado, we love it," said Scott Bordon.

Sales and Marketing Manager Gabrielle Michna said this could turn out to be one of their best years yet.

"In the last 48 hours we've gotten about 16 inches and we have about 88 percent of the mountain open," said Michna.

Some borders were anxious to test out some techno toys from under the tree.

"Yea I went yesterday too for Christmas and I got this camera so I had to come test it out," said Sonny Do.

Michna said they have big plans for New Years Eve on the mountain.

"And then at six pm on the dot we will be starting our torch light parade so following directly after that there will be fireworks," said Michna.
