GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- A house went up in flames while the homeowners were out to dinner this evening and their two pets were inside the home.

Neighbors called the fire department when they noticed smoke coming from a home on Hidden Valley Drive.

The homeowners arrived before fire officials and attempted to rescue their two cats.

They were able to rescue one cat out of a back window, but they were unable to bring the second cat to safety.

Once fire crews arrived on scene and extinguished fire- they went inside the home and firefighters found the second cat hiding under the bed. And the two cats survived the fire.

There were no injuries, but extensive damage to the home. Fire officials say the fire started somewhere by the front door and the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
