OURAY, Colo. The mining community is coming together to support each other and honor those who were lost in last week's accident in Ouray.
More than 100 people attended a candlelight vigil Saturday to remember Nick Cappanno, 33, of Montrose, and Rick Williams, 59, of Durango.
Both men died of carbon monoxide after an accident at the Revenue-Virginius mine in Ouray County last Saturday.
"With miners, it's a brotherhood that you can never, never describe," said Kendra Morrow, who helped coordinate the vigil. "So the fact that we can pull this together as a community and be here to support each other."
The vigil took place at a memorial set up at a mining statue off Ouray's Main Street.
Friends and family of the men lit candles, sang and reflected to honor all miners who have died at work.
"Not only the miners that were there that day were deeply affected, but from past to present," Morrow said.
