I-70 traffic stop leads to meth bust

MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) A repeat offender was caught with 5.5 pounds of methamphetamine on Tuesday morning.

Interdiction deputies with the Western Colorado Drug Task Force stopped a rental car on I-70 after numerous traffic infractions.

The single occupant of the car, Carlos Garcia, gave consent to a search of the vehicle. The deputies found 5.5 pounds of meth in the liner of a cooler in the vehicle's truck.

Garcia was previously arrested and convicted of transporting eight pounds of marijuana via Greyhound bus, also in Mesa County.

The approximate street value of the meth is between $100,000 and $150,000.
