GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) -- A judge had declared that a federal land swap is legal for a high-speed toll road in Jefferson County called the Jefferson Parkway.

The Denver Post reports Sunday that the land swap is opposed by the cities of Superior and Golden as well as two environmental groups. A judge ruled Friday that the December 2011 land exchange from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to the Jefferson Parkway Public Highway Authority is legal.

The land the judge ruled on is a 3-mile-long, 300-foot-wide strip of land on the eastern edge of Rocky Flats Wildlife Refuge that will be used to completely ring the Denver metro area with a highway by extending Colorado 93 north to E-470 near Broomfield.
