Judge recuses from criminal case against Steve King

GRAND JUNCTION Senator Steve King isn't due in court quite yet, but over the weekend one judge recused himself from the criminal case, saying he had a conflict of interest.

Mesa County District Judge Thomas Deister made the decision to disqualify himself from the case on Friday.

Last Wednesday Senator Steve King was issued a summons after a three week investigation that was sparked by a time card discrepancy.
He faces several charges including embezzlement, forgery, theft and official misconduct.

Prosecutors allege he defrauded the Mesa County Sheriff's Department and Colorado Mesa University of up to $5,000 while he worked for them.
