GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) Just because school is back in session doesn't mean hunger is taking a break. That's why the organizers with the Kids Aid Backpack Program need your help.
The program offers bags of food for low-income students to take home on the weekends, when they don't have access to the free or reduced meals through District 51.
"All schools ask for contributions, because the hunger issue doesn't just stop. It goes on weekly, it goes on yearly and any contribution would be a godsend,” says Marivel McClelland, outreach coordinator at Dos Rios Elementary.
Every Wednesday, a few students from Grand Junction High school pick up some of the contributions and deliver the food to Dos Rios Elementary to be distributed to students who are in need of the food.
