According to the Denver Post State Representative Laura Bradford says she is considering leaving the Republican Party.

This would have a significant impact on House Leadership. Republicans with Bradford hold only a 33-32 lead over Democrats.

If she became Unaffiliated the vote would be 32-32-1 and a new vote would be held on who the House Speaker is. Currently the House Speaker is Republican Frank McNulty.

Her decision is partially due to an ethics investigation against her continuing after Denver Police admitted she didn’t use her position to get out of a D-U-I arrest last week.

Fellow Republican Senator Steve King told 11 News via text, “It is disappointing that a contested traffic stop possible DUI becomes the impetus for the Democratic Party taking control of the House of Representatives.”

We will continue to update this story as new details become available.
