MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) -- A man is in custody after a long stand off with police.

Delta resident Chad Walker Evans, 23, was arrested Wednesday night, accused of second-degree burglary, theft, car jacking, robbery, fraud - identity theft, second-degree motor vehicle theft, second-degree criminal trespass, and driving with a canceled/denied drivers license.

A woman tells KKCO that she came home yesterday afternoon to find a strange man leaving her house off of Little Park Road. When she got out of her car, the man pushed her to the ground, jumped in her car and drove off.

She called 911 and said the man stole multiple firearms from her house.

Other witnesses told police that the suspect had ditched the car in Riverside and saw him running into an abandoned building, carrying unknown items.

There, he holed up in a house as officers began surrounding the building.

Law enforcement used the BearCat armored rescue vehicle to evacuate people in the houses next to the building.

SWAT arrived on scene, believing they were dealing with an armed, barricaded person. After getting a search warrant, officers forced him out with tear gas around 8:30 p.m.

Riverside Parkway between Hale Avenue and Highway 6 and 50 was closed while authorities searched for the suspect.

No injuries have been reported in this case.
