GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) The Mesa County Library system has a new director, and recently he's been making the rounds between the different branches meeting with local residents.

On Monday the new library director, Joseph Sanchez, was at the Fruita branch.
Sanchez says he's always wanted to live in Colorado, particularly on the Western Slope.
He says the outdoor lifestyle is a big plus. He says there are big plans in the works for the area's libraries.

"I want to start connecting more with the business community, and start generating original content through the library images, video, audio. Long term goals I want to start preserving Grand Junction’s culture for example the Bookcliff wild horses, not a lot of stuff about those guys and yet it's an amazing piece of history and it's an amazing part of our culture," says Sanchez.

Sanchez is nationally known as one of the leaders when it comes to e-books, e- content, and intellectual property in public libraries. He hopes to meet the challenges of new technologies in libraries head on.
