Library breaking records with 1.3 million checkouts and renewals in 2013

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. More book worms crawled their way into the Mesa County Central Library in 2013 breaking records of book checkouts and renewals.

The year didn't end the same way it started though. Library officials said mid-year they saw an 8% decline in book circulation because of the renovations being done to the central location.

All that changed after the grand re-opening with 1.3 million checkouts and renewals.

The number of library card holders increased by almost four percent and event attendance went up by nearly 11 percent in 2013.

Officials say they're looking forward to a very strong year and are hoping to break more records by the end of 2014.
