Life sentence in Ariz attack that wounded Giffords

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- Nearly two years after Gabrielle Giffords was wounded by a gunman, the former congresswoman has seen the man who shot her sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Giffords hugged her husband after the sentence was announced.

The shooter, Jared Loughner, showed little reaction today in an Arizona courtroom. He had agreed to the sentence in a deal that kept him from a federal death penalty.

The shooting rampage left six people dead and 13 others wounded.

Before the sentencing, Giffords' husband -- Mark Kelly -- told Loughner that her life has been "forever changed" -- but not "her spirit and her commitment to make the world a better place."
