Local Superkart Champion Racer

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - One local racer is racing her way to the top. Sabre Cook recently won the SKUSA Pro Tour Championship. Sabre is the first female to ever win this race.

Sabre started racing when she was about 8 years old and then started racing competitively when she was 11, “The first couple years I was known as ‘miss daisy’ because I would drive so slow.” That didn’t last too long, Sabre’s uncle, Darren Cook, says that she took to it pretty quick, “she started coming along and finally just started putting a whooping on all the boys around here.”

Sabre comes from a family of racers; her father and uncle used to race as well, “I started it because my dad raced motorcycles professionally and he didn’t want us doing that so karting and cars was a compromise.” Sabre’s dad, Stacey Cook, and uncle opened up the Grand Junction Motor Speedway; Grand Junction’s only kart racing track.

Sabre continues to race competitively but also attends Colorado School of Mines, “If I don’t make it as a driver, I plan on getting my bachelors degree in mechanical engineering and I hope to work for one of the race teams.”
