GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. While national charities are excellent ways to contribute to your favorite cause, there are plenty of organizations closer to home that could benefit from your time or financial support.
The Western Slope has many programs geared towards the early diagnosis and treatment of autism, and without outside help they cannot continue to thrive.
"It's super important for the communities to get involved cause the funds just aren't always there. and that leaves a lot of families without help and without services," says Autumn Harman of Firefly West Autism.
There are programs through Colorado Mesa University, District 51, and organizations like Firefly Autism West that serve individuals and families dealing with autism.
No matter what your cause may be, it's important to ask lots of questions and check organization websites to make sure your time and money are going to those most in need.
