Local law enforcment runs for Special Olympics

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- Local law enforcement agencies are joining forces for a different type of patrol.

This morning, troopers, deputies and police officers hit the pavement for the first annual community torch run.

Saturday marked the first time community members were invited to walk and run with law enforcement.

Proceeds from the 5Kk run-walk will go to benefit the Special Olympics Colorado program, and authorities say we can learn a lot from these athletes.

"These athletes have nothing to complain about, they don't complain about anything. They're happy with whatever they get, it might just be a participation ribbon, but they're happy to get it," Colorado State Patrol trooper Chris Wright said.
