Local woman celebrates 103 years

Grand Junction resident Dorothy Burgess spent her 103rd birthday today with friends and friends.

Dorothy moved to the Grand Valley when she was young and grew up on her family's Fruita farm.

She attended Fruita Monument High School and went to college on the Western Slope.

Now at 103, she's celebrating yet another birthday with her loved ones. Between then and now, her daughter said she's seen a lot in her years.

"Everything she has seen in her lifetime: it’s amazing. There [have] been two world wars, and lots of smaller wars. The airplane, the automobile, of course computers, the telephone. It's pretty remarkable really," said Burgess' daughter Gaynelle Colaric.

Colaric says her mother always has a great attitude and is never one to complain.

She says she takes everything in stride, which could contribute to her long and happy life. Burgess' family also sees her almost every day.
