Loma woman pleads guilty to starting Ruby Canyon Fire

MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) -- A Loma woman has pleaded guilty to starting the Ruby Canyon Fire in March of 2011.

Ami Lyn Thompson, 41, was sentenced for starting the blaze in the McInnis Canyons National Conservation area.

She will serve five days in jail with credit for time served, and then have one year of supervised release.

Thompson must also pay nearly $15,000 in restitution to the Bureau of Land Management.

She admitted to setting two fires on private land near the conservation area that then spread out of control. Thompson was burning weeds.

Federal officials say Thompson has until September of next year to pay her fines.
