CALAIS, MAINE (AP) -- The superintendent of a Maine school district has rescinded the one-game ban given to a student who ran onto the floor after a basketball game last week and kneeled in the prayer stance made famous by Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow.

The Calais High School student was barred from the next home game after "Tebowing" at the end of the Jan. 24 contest.

The student, whose name has not been made public, appealed the punishment to Superintendent James Underwood. Underwood on Tuesday overturned it, saying the suspension was an "overreaction ... to an innocuous situation."

The principal told the Bangor Daily News the student was punished because he broke a rule barring anyone from the court until players have cleared off, and not because of the Tebow stance itself.
