DENVER (AP) -- A 23-year-old man has been convicted in the shooting death of a soldier from Illinois who was stationed at Fort Carson.

The Denver district attorney's office said Friday that Ricky Scott was found guilty of first-degree murder in the July 23, 2011, death of 25-year-old Sgt. Anthony DiSilva. Scott was acquitted of felony murder and attempted aggravated robbery.

DiSilva, who was shot near a Denver motel where he was staying, was about to be discharged from the Army and was waiting to meet his father so they could drive back to his hometown of Columbia, Ill.

The Denver Post reports DiSilva's mother received a text from her son just before police found him dead, telling her he had gotten into trouble. His phone records revealed several calls and text messages to Scott the night of the shooting.
