DENVER (AP) -- A 64-year-old man who acknowledged beating his wife as they traveled across four states in a camper has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
The Denver Post reports Adams County District Judge Thomas Ensor sentenced Tom Grose on Friday, saying his actions constituted "animalistic behavior."
Prosecutors say that over a five-day period, Grose traveled with his common-law wife of 16 years across Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona and Colorado, beating her and torturing her. He accused her of cheating on him and prostituting herself.
The woman managed to escape the camper while parked at a Thornton Walmart on April 25. She suffered four broken ribs, a lacerated liver and a perforated ear drum.
Grose struck a deal and pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and unlawful sexual contact.
