Man killed in Delta County crash identified

DELTA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) -- A Cedaredge man is dead after his car crashes into a truck on Highway 65.

Tuesday morning, Jerry Lischke, 60, was driving his 2000 Hyundai Accent south on Highway 65 near mile marker 5, according to Colorado State Patrol.

As he began to take a right hand curve, his vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a 2012 Ford F-350 heading north, driven by 35-year-old Fruita resident Samuel McKinley.

CSP says Lischke died on scene. McKinley was taken to Delta County Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries. Both men were the only people in each vehicle.

The alcohol and drug content in Lischke’s system will be checked by the coroner, though alcohol and drugs are not necessarily suspected factors in the crash, a CSP trooper says.
