BRIGHTON, Colo. (AP) -- A 23-year-old man who killed the owner of a Commerce City jewelry store during a robbery in 2012 has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

The Adams County District Attorney's Office says Anton Valdez was sentenced Friday for the May 17, 2012, death of Bernardo Saenz. Valdez was convicted Wednesday of first-degree murder, aggravated robbery and conspiracy.

Prosecutors say Saenz was shot four times at close range when he came from a back room of La Joyeria jewelry store after he heard a glass case being broken. Two other men were involved in the robbery but haven't been caught.

District Judge Thomas Ensor sentenced Valdez to life in prison without parole for first-degree murder. He imposed a consecutive 32-year sentence for aggravated robbery. A 16-year sentence for conspiracy will be served concurrently.
