ORCHARD MESA, Colo. (KKCO) -- Grand Junction Police officers have arrested the man whose alleged involvement in a gun theft prompted a three-school lockdown.
Tuesday morning, a woman called 911 and said a man had stolen a gun from her house. While police searched the area for the suspect, they locked down Orchard Mesa Middle School, Dos Rios Elementary and New Emerson Elementary. Officers were unable to find him.
Later that night, around six officers were called to the 200 block of Holly Lane on reports of a man going door to door. He was found in the 2700 block of Pinon Court and matched the description of the suspect involved in the earlier theft.
Police identified the man as 48-year-old David Arthur Barns and arrested him on an unrelated warrant.
Officers say they also found a stolen handgun in his possession.
He's now facing nine charges, including weapons possession, drug paraphernalia possession, possession of a financial transaction device and an identification document, second degree burglary and possession of burglary charges.
