El Dia de los Ninos comes to to the Grand Valley

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. mesa county libraries celebrated its first ever, dia de los ninos celebration Wednesday morning.

El Dia de los Ninos is celebrated nationally, and Mesa County libraries wanted to give Western Slope children the opportunity to learn about different cultures in fun, new ways.

Event organizers hope this fiesta will teach children cultural awareness and promote learning through different mediums.

"They're interacting with the clowns and excited to see the square dancing, it's a wonderful day today," says Laurie Gomez of the Mesa County libraries.

Clowns, face painters, and local dancing groups all came out to perform and teach kids some new moves.

The success of Wednesday's event already has library officials thinking of new activities and performances for next year.
