GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Hazardous weather is always a frightening idea.
But with a new certification Mesa County has earned, residents can be assured they will always be in the know about bad weather conditions.
Storm Ready is a program designed to help communicate severe weather conditions to residents.
Officials are concerned for wild fires, avalanches, flash floods and severe winter storms in some areas of Mesa County.
Now, all schools, government buildings and the library have a radio in them that will automatically alert everyone if anything is life threatening.
"It should give the public confidence that we have multiple ways of receiving information from the Weather Service, as well as notifying the public of weather related emergencies," said Andy Martsolf, the Mesa County emergency manager.
Officials are encouraging residents to register with the 9-1-1 Communications Center to receive community and emergency alerts.
