MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) - The Mesa County Health Department says a child has been hospitalized with a confirmed case of influenza.
According to health officials, this is the "second hospitalized influenza case in Mesa County during the 2011-2012 flu season."
The department issued the following statement:
“Although flu shots are being offered as early as September 1st, the actual peak of the flu season doesn’t usually occur until February. So far we’ve had very little influenza activity, which is not an indication that our overall flu season will be mild. It’s always possible that our peak will occur later than usual. It is very important to practice good health habits by following some simple steps to prevent respiratory illnesses including influenza.”
Adult and child flu vaccines are available on a walk-in basis Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays 8:00am to 4:00pm and on Tuesdays from 11:00am – 7:00 pm at the Mesa County Health Department at 510 29 ½ Rd. and at the Fruita office located at 215 N. Plum on Wednesdays from 8:00am – 4:00pm. Appointments are also available by calling 248-6900. Mesa County Health Department is offering the flu vaccine for only $15 and the flu mist (nasal) for only $20.
