Mom of Colo. woman missing in canyon fears worst

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) -- The mother of a Colorado woman reported missing at the Grand Canyon says she believes her daughter fell into the river and is dead.

Park rangers say 21-year-old Kaitlin Anne Kenney, of Englewood, Colo., was last seen Friday night at her group's camp near Tapeats Creek on the north side of the Colorado River.

Her mother, Linnea Kenney, tells The Associated Press that crews appeared to have thoroughly searched for Kenney. She said Wednesday she now is awaiting word on the discovery of her daughter's body.

Fliers with Kaitlin Kenney's picture and description remain posted where river trips launch and at takeout points.

Grand Canyon spokeswoman Shannan Marcak says the search for Kaitlin Kenney has been scaled back. She says any additional information or clues could guide future search efforts.
