Much-needed snow forecast for Colorado mountains

DENVER (AP) -- Weather forecasters say much-needed snow is expected to fall in parts of Colorado's high country through Tuesday.

The San Juan mountains in southwest Colorado are expected to get the most snowfall, with accumulations of up to 11 inches by Tuesday. National Weather Service forecaster Bob Koopmeiners tells The Denver Post (http://bit.ly/Yxeut3) that Telluride will get the "lion's share" of the snow, but "we all need it. The state's in dire need of water."

Colorado's snowpack is about 50 to 60 percent of normal.

The Aspen area also could be looking at double-digit snow accumulations through Monday.

From around noon on Monday to Tuesday evening, snowfall along the Continental Divide could range from five to 12 inches, while Summit County ski areas could get between three and 10 inches.
