MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) -- The music teacher who pleaded guilty to child sex assault learned his fate Friday in a Mesa County courtroom.

A judge sentenced James David Tiner to the Department of Corrections for at least 15 years for one count of sexual assault-pattern of abuse and at least six years for one count of child sexual assault.

All other charges were dropped against him as part of his plea agreement.

The Palisade teacher admitted to sexually assaulting his female student, who was 8-years-old at the time.

Tiner was arrested last December in Garfield County after the FBI alerted the media that officials were searching for him. He was then extradited back to Mesa County.
