GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. National Roofing week is from July 6- July 12 this year, and experts say it’s time for homeowners to annually inspect their roofs now that the temperatures are starting to rise.
They suggest taking a close look at your roof from either across the street with binoculars or up on the actual roof, but only if you are comfortable doing so.
They say it’s important to check your roof regularly, because harsh winter weather and strong rain and wind storms can cause shingles or tiles to become loose, and then can eventually lead to replacing the entire roof.
If you do have to purchase a new one, experts recommend using composite products that resist impact, fire and most insects.
Some repairs can be done yourself and you can get most of the supplies at your local home improvement store.
"A lot of people don't know that you can actually re-shingle over shingle, but you can only do that three times before you have to have your roof peeled off," said Vernon Mason from the Home Depot.
If you are not comfortable making your own repairs experts suggest doing homework on contractors before deciding on one.
