New bill to change voter procedures

Grand Junction, Colo (KKCO) --- A new bill called the Colorado Voter Access and Modernized Elections Act is said to modernize elections to reflect the way Mesa County residents vote.

Supported by the Colorado County Clerks Association, the bill improves clerks’ ability to update records through different databases, changes the voter registration deadline from 29 to 22 days, and establishes mail ballot delivery for all elections.

However it maintains the choice to vote at home, deliver your ballot to a center or vote at a center.

The main point of contention between the Democrat and Republican parties is the same-day voter registration, which means you can register to vote the same day you cast your ballot. Supporters argue emergency registering thousands of people across the state is very similar to same -day registration.

The bill is set to go through the Senate later this week.
