New bill to place sales taxes on internet purchases

Grand Junction, Colo (KKCO) --- A new bill being debated could place sales taxes on internet purchases in Colorado.

The current law states that stores with websites that have a physical presence in the state, like Walmart and Target are required to collect sales taxes, but now other websites like Amazon and eBay, which make over $1 million in annual revenue, would fall under these regulations could join that group.

Mesa County could see an $800,000 to $1.4 million increase in revenue with this bill and Mayor Susuras said that money could be used to make a new fire building, fix the roads and develop parks.
