Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – A new preschool is getting ready to open its doors for the upcoming school year. On Tuesday night, the Fruita Montessori preschool held the first of two informational meetings for parents.
The school is based on the Montessori philosophy, which owner Melanie Harmon says is a system based on the developmental stages of a child. the program is muilti - aged, with students between the ages of three and six who can attend the preschool.
"We have very traditional preschools within the valley and Fruita, that's all we have, are traditional preschools. So by bringing a Montessori preschool parents have another choice," says Melanie Harmon, the schools owner and director.
The parents are thrilled about the school as well. One parent talked to KKCO about this opportunity for his daughter.
"I’m excited for her to have the chance to be in the Montessori system, it's one of the best systems for her to start her education. The chance that it's here in Fruita and we live in Fruita it's an excellent opportunity for her and us."
At the open house parents were given a tour of the school and had an opportunity to learn more about the Montessori philosophy.
The next informational night is going to be Thursday July 11th, at 6:30pm.
The school is located at 140 N. Plum Street, in Fruita.
