Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – A local town is standing by the right to bear arms, going as far as to encourage homeowners to have at least one firearm. The town of Nucla is considering an ordinance that would encourage the head of house-hold in every home to own at least one gun.

Many in the town say they are afraid of additional gun restrictions passed by liberal state goverment. “The thought that the government is stepping in and trying to control and limit our constitutional rights I think that bothers me the most," says Richard Craig, who is on the towns board of trustees.

Those in favor of the ordinance say it would put criminals on notice that the town is armed and feel crime rates would drop. The city council is set to take up the ordinance in a work session on April 10th.
