GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - It's almost a week after the tragic accident on the Grand Mesa, where two pedestrians were killed by a car.
Now, officials are doing everything they can to keep visitors safe.
The parking lot, where 65-year-old Glen Eyre and 63-year-old Linda Eyre were killed, is owned by the United States Forest Service.
The United States Forest Service is teaming up with the Colorado Department of Transportation to come up with some preventative measures.
So far, signs, warning drivers of the congested area, have been ordered; but the location of the lot is their big concern.
"Parking along those shoulders is just unsafe, so we'd like the see the parking off the system," said David Eller, CDOT Region Transportation Director.
There are other parking lots for the popular ski area within a mile, so officials would like to see more visitors take advantage of these other, less crowded lots.
