BOULDER, Colo. (AP) -- A California pilot accused of flying 55 pounds of marijuana into an airport in Boulder has been given two years of probation and fined $10,000.

The Daily Camera reports District Judge Thomas Mulvahill sentenced 46-year-old Carl Steven Gruber on Friday, saying he didn't believe the man's story that the pot was fresh inventory for a local medical marijuana facility.

Police say they received a request from the Department of Homeland Security in late January to assist with a suspicious plane that had landed at Boulder Municipal Airport.

Gruber was charged with possession of between five and 100 pounds of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of more than 12 ounces of the drug. As part of a plea deal, he acknowledged a single felony charge of distributing fewer than five pounds of marijuana.

A plea of LESS than 5#'s, when there was over 50? I guess this is the result of just getting someone through the system, and moving on to the next. And people wonder why the crime is the way it is. AMAZING..............
