Police: Mom prompted report of abandoned baby

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- Police say the teenager initially believed to have found an abandoned newborn in Colorado Springs was actually the baby's mother.

Police spokeswoman Barbara Miller said Thursday that another person then called 911 to report the abandoned baby Wednesday.

The 17-year-old mother could be charged for prompting someone else to report the abandoned baby girl. Police believe she was less than 12 hours old when the call was made.

Miller told The Gazette the baby didn't appear to be harmed.

Contrary to initial reports, the baby wasn't found in a trash container.

Meanwhile, police in Northglenn were searching for a baby that was nearly abandoned on a stranger's porch Wednesday.

The woman who put the baby on the porch retrieved the child and left after the stranger confronted her.
