UPDATE: GJ man identified and charged for Glen Rd. shooting

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – The Grand Junction Police Department has arrested one person in connection with the shooting on Glen Road on the morning of Feb. 16.

Twenty-one-year-old Michael Joseph Renteria of Grand Junction has been booked into Mesa County Jail on charges of attempted first degree murder, second degree assault, felony menacing and reckless endangerment.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – One man is in custody and at least four others are injured after a morning shooting leads to a hunt for the suspect.


The Grand Junction Police Department responded to the 476 Glen Road around 11:15 a.m. Saturday on reports of a shooting. Four people were taken to the hospital, one with multiple gunshot wounds, and three with injuries from another type of weapon. All four are expected to survive.

Officers were tipped off that the suspect's vehicle may be in the 2000 block of Elm Avenue during their initial investigation. An officer found the car matching the vehicle description, but the suspect was not in the vehicle.

When officers approached a home on Elm Ave, several people exited the home. Officers detained several of those people and questioned them to see if anyone was connected to the shooting.

It was at that time officers also learned a two-month old baby had been left inside the home. SWAT members were able to safely retrieve the baby, and returned inside of the house to look for the suspect.

Officers received a tip while the SWAT was inside that the suspect was walking near 28 Road. Authorities found him a short time later and detained him.

Authorities are continuing their investigation on the case.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – Our crew on scene has confirmed with authorities the suspect wanted in connection with this afternoon's shooting has been taken into custody.

The suspect was believed to have been hiding in a home on Elm Avenue.

Authorities say he left that residence, and was arrested while wandering near 28th and North Avenue.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – Police responded to an alleged shooting incident on the 400 block of Glen Road.

Police say four victims were injured, and at least one suffered from a gunshot wound.

The three other victims were injured and were taken to the hospital for further evaluation. All of the injuries are said not to be life threatening.

Police and SWAT are currently searching a home on Elm Avenue. The suspect is believed to be hiding out in one of the homes.

This case is still under investigation and crews are on scene. Count on KKCO 11 News to update this story as soon as we hear more information.
