Police look into response in Denver slaying

DENVER (AP) -- Denver Police are looking into their communications and response times surrounding the death of a woman whose body was found in a home five hours after an officer responded to a domestic violence report at the same address.

Authorities say 41-year-old Christopher Alex Perea was arrested Monday on suspicion of first-degree murder in the death of 44-year-old Loretta Barela. Neighbors say they were married.

The coroner says the cause of death hasn't been determined.

KUSA-TV first reported that police had gone to the house hours before Barela was found dead on Sunday.

Police Chief Robert White tells The Denver Post his department wants to know how much time passed between the domestic violence call and the arrival of an officer, and whether the officer took the appropriate action.
