GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – Suspicious activity gives locals a reason to be wary of some door-to-door salesmen.
Across Mesa County, people have reported magazine and book salesmen knocking on doors, asking strange questions to whomever answers, and trying doorknobs when someone does not open the door.
Witnesses also say the salesmen will look into cars that are not their own and will ask to use people’s bathroom.
Grand Junction Police spokesperson Kate Porras says if you get a visit like this, you should not let the stranger into your home. You should also ask for identification and what they plan to do with the money they get. Tell them to give you contact information so you can research their company first.
Porras says most legitimate companies do not make you buy things immediately, so if you don’t feel comfortable buying something then and there, you don’t have to.
Make sure you lock your doors to your house and cars, even if you’re at home and your car is close by. Thieves work at all hours of the day and night.
If you see suspicious behavior like this, call 911.
