GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) --Ask anyone in Western Colorado what they like most... and chances are you'll hear a lot about the outdoor activities...
As a part of March Madness, outdoor enthusiasts in the community came together to participate in Powderhorn's first memorial triple play race. Locals gathered at Powderhorn for a fun-filled day of skiing, skinning and biking.
The 3-stage race was a celebration of the life of Tim Sewell and the event also raised funds for suicide prevention, The Colorado Mesa Cycling Team and the Powderhorn Race Club.
Gabrielle Michma of the Powderhorn Resort was at the finish line cheering on contestants of the Powderhorn Triple Play.
"We are doing a bike skin and ski- we just had the first guy come through, and hour and half is the timing," explained Michma.
"It feels great to have won the race- it's a super fun race," said participant John Klish.
Local Grand Valley resident, John Klish, did more than just win the Powderhorn PH-3 race today.
"In fact I’m going to the Deaf Olympics this summer,” said Klish.
Klish is a United States Deaflympian who will compete in the 22nd Summer Deaflympics in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Not everyone who came out to the event was an Olympian. For one local resident, it was her first time on the slopes.
"It was awesome, but I was scared," said resident Miranda Carpenter.
