GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) --- After three years and three million dollars later, the public safety project is finally complete and today the community joined firefighters to celebrate it.
Families and children in the valley toured the revamped facilities. Fire station two now has a couple new bedrooms, converted the deck into a weight room and gear will be stored in a separate room on other side of the building.
Officials say crews live there 24 hours a day and say it was important to update. In addition, the two extra rooms allow for more staff.
Fire officials also add it was important to remodel the fire station in order to better serve the community.
“Another piece of apparatus up here [the remodel] with other folks just enhances our capability for our responses. We’re able to cover more calls out of this area and into other areas,” said John Williams of The Grand Junction Fire Department.
The original station was constructed in 1992.
