Real-estate market on the rise

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- If you are thinking about buying or selling real estate- experts say the time in the Grand Valley is now.

National Open House Weekend is kicking things off in the valley. According to Remax Real Estate agent Michael Burkhard now is a great time to buy.

“This is a great weekend to start it with…the sunshine and no snow going on right now it's a great time to come look at houses," says Burkhard.

Burkhard says over 80 homes will be featured at various open houses this weekend. The realtor explains after the economic downturn a few years back, Grand Junction is lacking inventory when it comes to homes for sale, creating a supply and demand issue.

“We are starting to see the prices creep back up and getting more activity. Interest rates are still extremely low so people are starting to buy," explains Burkhard.

According to Burkhard, the housing market is on the rise.

“I would get into a [mortgage] lender and get qualified and see what you qualify for and then start looking," suggests Burkhard.

Alfredo Acevedo of Wells Fargo Home Mortgage says interest rates are at historic lows.

“These are historic low interest rates, never before seen, it's a great time to buy and I highly suggest you talk to your home mortgage lender to give you some more details," says Acevedo.

All in all, it is a great time to look for a home and even put your house on the market.

“Now's a good time," said Burkhard.

If you didn’t make it to an open house today, National Open House Weekend continues tomorrow.

If you are shopping for a new home, Wells Fargo is offering an incentive $250 off closing costs for your home purchase.
